• Quality and type of cut material,
• Whether the correct cutting gap is given between the matrix and the punch,
• Whether the matrix and punch are sharpened correctly,
• The surface quality of the matrix and punch of the cutting die used,
• Whether the matrix and punch have been heat treated correctly,
• Whether the material from which the matrix and punch are manufactured has been selected correctly,
• Whether the matrix and punch are bedded correctly,
• Whether the press to which the cutting tools are attached is sufficiently sensitive.

If any of these factors are not as required, the life of the cutting dies will be shortened. This may lead to an extension of the production time and will also increase the production cost.3.
